Duration: January 2011 - October 2011 (Pilot-Project: October 2010)
Region: Bethlehem (West Bank)
Status: completed
After the successful Pilot-Project in October 2010, Scort and its official partner clubs (FC Basel, Werder Bremen and Bayer 04 Leverkusen) became actively engaged in the West Bank in January 2011. Especially within a conflict dominated region, young people are confronted with a lack of access to educational opportunities and international know-how.
This can inevitably lead to a certain level of frustration and lack of self-esteem. Therefore, the aim was to foster self-confidence and engagement of young people within the coaching education programme in cooperation with top European football clubs. During the programme, the young women and men learned to become proactive and to set individual targets.
The year-long initiative focused on the education of young Palestinian women and men as football coaches for children’s football with special competences in the social field. During the coaching education programme, the participants were expected to set up their own children groups, so that they act as multipliers, passing on their new found knowledge and therefore positively influencing the life of girls and boys in their local communities. Staff of local partner organisations supported the coaching education programme (which was mainly led by the instructors of the international clubs) by teaching non-football related but locally relevant topics.
The Project is financially supported by the German Federal Foreign Office and the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations.
